Henley Town Mayor Michelle Thomas, councillors and officers of Henley Town Council are deeply saddened at the news of the death of Her Majesty the Queen. We know that we represent the people of Henley-on-Thames at this time in sending our condolences to the Royal Family. 

The Queen was a much loved and highly regarded monarch and many residents will remember seeing her on the river here during the Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen demonstrated such devotion to a life of service to this country and it is fitting that we come together to honour her. Flags will be lowered to half-mast to mark the death of our Sovereign and the bells of St Mary’s will toll at 12.00pm on Friday 9 September.

The people of Henley can leave their own tributes in condolence books at the Town Hall. Open 9am until 4pm weekdays and 10am until 3pm on Saturday.

Flowers can also be laid at the front of the front steps of the Town Hall.

Mayor Michelle Thomas said: “I would like to assure the residents of Henley your town council will work to ensure all of you will be able to pay your respects to Queen Elizabeth II. Myself along with councillors and council staff are following the protocol issued by the Lieutenancy during the period of deep mourning leading up to the state funeral and await news from the Palace of when the proclamation will be held.  All of my engagements have been cancelled as a mark of deep respect.”
