Do you care about the future of Henley? Are you passionate about your community, keen to influence local decisions, and eager to be a voice for your neighbours? Henley Town Council is calling on residents to step forward and consider becoming a Town Councillor.

Serving as a councillor is a unique opportunity to make a real difference to the place you live. Town Councillors play a vital role in shaping the policies and services that affect Henley – from green spaces and events to planning, infrastructure, and community wellbeing.

Why Become a Councillor?

Henley is a vibrant and historic town with a strong sense of community. As a councillor, you’ll be part of a team that works collaboratively to protect and enhance what makes Henley special. Whether it’s supporting local businesses, improving sustainability, or ensuring residents’ voices are heard, your contribution will help shape the town’s future.

No formal qualifications are needed – just enthusiasm, commitment, and a desire to get involved. The council particularly encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences to ensure it reflects the diversity and values of the community it serves.

What’s Involved?

Councillors typically attend monthly meetings, join working groups or committees on topics of interest, and engage with residents on local issues. Full training and ongoing support are provided, so even if you’re new to local government, you’ll never be on your own.

Whether you’re young or retired, long-settled or newly arrived, your perspective matters. Henley Town Council values fresh ideas and new energy to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Age: You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Citizenship: You must be a British citizen, a citizen of the Commonwealth, or a European Union citizen.
  • Residency: You must be registered to vote in the Henley-on-Thames area, or have lived, worked, or owned property Henley (or within 3 miles) for at least 12 months before an election.
